Hot temps for the Island

Posted: 7/22/2016

Hazy Golden Glow

The heat and humidity created the interesting haze over the lake.

Crazy hot and humid temps on the Island. There are still breezes off the lake but for the Island it is unusual to have temps in the high 80s and into the 90s plus high humidity. In spite of the heat, Island festivities and events carried on. Take care to keep hydrated, including babies, children, and pets.

42 Teams have entered the DDBQ competition which is held at the Island Airport on August 27, Chairman, Dick Jepsen reported that teams from 6 states will be represented this year. A #1 team in the country that will be here is Smokey D's from Iowa. Others are also relegated Teams of the Year last year. This year's winner on the Island will receive an invitation to compete in the American Royal Invitational. In addition to the spectacular BBQ there will be live music, vendors, children's games, and a raffle drawing. Go to deathsdoorbbq.com or find us on facebook. This huge event was all started 5 years ago by Lisa Gibson and the late Fred Hanwitz. They had travelled to several BBQ competitions participating as judges and fostered the idea of having one here. Dick Jepsen was another BBQ judge and he worked with Fred and LIsa and has been the Chairman for the past few years. So many donate time, money, products, and "muscle" to make this happen. Thanks to all involved. More information as the time gets closer.
