The annual February Island-Florida Picnic is always on George Washington’s birthday, February 22. It is held from 11 A.M. – 3 P.M. There is a potluck lunch. The event is organized by Grace Ann and Barry Carpenter and Larry and Donna Russell.
The annual Lion’s Club Fish Derby will be held February 11-19. The first weekend of the Derby the Island Players will present Island Players Radio Theater at the TPAC February 12th with a matinee and evening show. On the last day, Sunday the 19th, the Fish Derby wraps up with the prizes announced at noon, followed by lunch, and bingo, all at Nelsen’s Hall.

The 3rd Annual Washington Island Fishboil Festival will take place on Feb. 4 at FitzGerald's

Wisconsin Department of Veteran’s Affairs (WDVA) Non-profit Grant was recently awarded to the Wisconsin Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired. These grants are given to non-profit organizations that provide financial assistance or other services to Wisconsin veterans and their families. The Wisconsin Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired provides information, education, resources and support for living plus technology training on computers, tablets and smartphones; training on screen reader software; information on software and hardware solutions for computer users; practical ideas for living safely with vision loss; tips for medication management and an introduction to adaptive products that may improve quality of life.” CEO/ Executive Director Denise Jess and Certified Low Vision Therapist Amy Wurf accepted this award on the Council's behalf. The certificate was signed by State Governor Scott Walker and WDVA Secretary John Scocos. (Information from news article) Denise is the daughter of Butch and Karen Jess of Washington Island.
