Island Fair

Posted: 8/28/2017

It was a beautiful sunny day for the Lions Club Island Fair. There was a big turnout. The gates opened at 11 A.M. The parade was at noonish. The American Legion members marched, leading the parade. The Island’s fire and emergency vehicles were included. Antique cars made up most of the entries. There was one large float by the Art and Nature Center. Riding in several convertibles were some of the oldest citizens of the Island. There were quite a few horse riders with the 4-H
riders doing impressive moves in sync. After the parade there were many choices for lunch plus ice cream treats. The Rec Center had the ever popular bounce houses for the kids. BINGO was held under the big tent. There were good entries in all categories in the Community Center, many with blue ribbons. Besides food, there were booths providing information, selling raffle tickets, and offering other items for sale. Dick Purinton’s latest book about the history of the Stavkirke was “hot off the press” and available for purchase. The Lions Club Drawing resulted in the following winners: First prize – Ron Rusing ($2,000), Second prize – Terry Henkel ($1,000), Third – Ivan Johnson ($500), Fourth – Krista Gunnlaugsson ($250).
